Backing up my TomTom device
Answer
The easiest way to make a backup of all the contents of your TomTom device is by using TomTom HOME . You can make one backup per device and store it on your computer. When you make a new backup, the old backup for that device is overwritten.
Note:
TomTom HOME is not compatible with NAVIGATOR 5/MOBILE 5- or earlier versions of these products.

Connect your device to your computer and switch it on.
TomTom HOME starts automatically.
In the Options menu on the left-hand side of TomTom HOME, click Make backup .
Click the green Backup button in the upper-right hand corner.
Enter a name for the backup. Then click OK .
HOME backs up your TomTom device.
When the backup is finished, it is listed as the Latest Backup.
Note: To restore a backup, select the backup you want to restore, then click Restore .
Connect your navigation device to your computer and switch it on.
TomTom HOME starts automatically.
If TomTom HOME does not start, do one of the following:
Windows: Click on the Start menu and go to All Programs > TomTom and then click on TomTom HOME .
Mac: Click Go in the Finder menu and choose Applications , then double-click TomTom HOME .
Click Back up and restore in the HOME menu.
Click Back up my device and then click Back up now .
HOME backs up your device.
Wait until HOME has finished creating the backup.
Then click Done .
To see where HOME saves your backups do one of the following:
Windows: Click Tools > TomTom HOME Preferences and then select the Folder Preferences tab.
Mac: Click TomTom HOME > Preferences... and then select the Folder Preferences tab.
To restore a backup, click Back up and restore in the HOME menu and then click Restore my device .
Backing up your device manually

Select your operating system:
Windows XP
Connect your device to your computer and switch it on.
Click Start > My Computer .
Double-click the removable drive of your device.
A window opens showing the files and folders of your TomTom device.
Make sure hidden files and folders are shown:
Click Tools > Folder Options and then select the View tab.
Tick Show hidden files and folders .
Click Apply and then click OK .
Click Edit and then click Select All .
Click Edit and then click Copy .
Click Start > My Documents .
Click File > New > Folder and then type a name e.g. "TomTom Backup".
Press Enter .
Double-click the new folder.
A window opens for your new folder.
Click Edit > Paste .
The content of your TomTom device is copied to the new folder. Depending on the map size this may take a while.
Windows Vista
Connect your device to your computer and switch it on.
Click the Windows Start button and then click Computer .
Double-click the Removable Disk of your device.
A window opens showing the files and folders of your TomTom device.
Make sure hidden files and folders are shown:
Click Organise > Folder and Search Options and then select the View tab.
Tick Show hidden files and folders .
Click Apply and then click OK .
Click Organise and then click Select All .
Click Organise and then click Copy .
Click Start > Documents .
Click Organise > New Folder and then type a name e.g. "TomTom Backup".
Press Enter .
Double-click the new folder.
A window opens for your new folder.
Click Organise > Paste .
The content of your TomTom device is copied to the new folder. Depending on the map size this may take a while.
Mac OS X
Connect your device to your computer and switch it on.
On your Mac, select the desktop icon of your TomTom device by clicking it once.
From the Finder menu, click File and then click Duplicate .
Mac OS X creates a copy of your TomTom device in a new folder on your desktop.
