To download and install your new map you need to use TomTom HOME.
Tip: For additional information click the question mark next to a topic.
Getting started
- Backup your navigation device by clicking Back up and restore in HOME.

To allow HOME to transfer your favourites and settings do the following before downloading your new map:
- Make sure you're using the latest version of HOME by clicking Check for HOME Update in the Help drop-down menu.
- Also make sure you have the latest application version installed on your navigation device.
Important: If a new map is offered do not yet download it. Deselect your new map and only download the newest application.
All other navigation devices:
Convert your favourites into custom POIs to transfer them to your new map.
- Transfer your custom POIs to your new map.
- Make sure you have enough space on your memory card or internal memory.

To check the available space on your device, connect your device to your computer and then click Show contents of my device in TomTom HOME.
To check the size of your new map do one of the following:
- Before purchasing:
Go to the TomTom Webshop and select the map you want to buy. The size of the map is listed under Your selection.

- After downloading:
In TomTom HOME, click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc > Items on my computer to check the size of your map.
If your device uses internal memory and a memory card you can switch between memories.

To switch between the internal memory and the memory card, do the following:
TomTom GO with internal memory and memory card slot
- From the Device drop-down menu, click Change device.
A screen with the available memory locations opens.

- Select the location to access.
TomTom ONE XL and TomTom ONE 2nd Edition*
HOME will access the internal memory of your device if no memory card is inserted. Once a memory card is inserted HOME will access it instead.
- From the Device drop-down menu, click Disconnect device.
- Unplug the USB cable.
- Insert a memory card to access it or remove it to access internal memory.
- Re-connect your device.
* ONE 2nd Edition: serial numbers starting with Z1, Z2.

The latest version of HOME checks if your device has enough space for your new map. If not, HOME offers to delete items from your device. You may need to delete an old or unused map before you proceed with the installation. If your device uses a memory card you can also choose to use a larger memory card.

Connect your PDA to HOME 2 using Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync®. Follow the steps below to install your map.

- NAVIGATOR 6

- Connect your PDA or card reader/writer* to your computer.
* If you have a Palm-OS-device or mobile phone you need to use a card reader/writer
- Start TomTom HOME by clicking Start > All Programs > TomTom > TomTom HOME.
- In the bottom left corner of HOME, click Login to log into your TomTom account.
Then enter your MyTomTom username and password.
- Click Download your updates from the Options menu in HOME.
You can also press Ctrl + F8.
A window pops up with the available services for your account.
- Tick the boxes next to the content you want to download and then click OK.
Important:
If a new application version is available, it is listed here. Make sure you download and install the latest application version because it may be required to support the new TomTom service.
HOME downloads the selected content updates.
- After downloading your updates you are asked to install the downloaded items on your device.
Before you install:
Make sure that you have enough space on your memory card or hard disk.
Click Yes to have all items installed automatically.
If you choose No you can install your downloaded items on your device later.

If you choose No you can install your downloaded items on your device later. All downloaded TomTom services are stored on your computer.
To install downloaded TomTom services, click Install to TomTom from the HOME Options menu, and then click My Computer. Your downloaded services are listed in the center column of HOME. Select all items you want to install by ticking the boxes next to the content, and then click the green Install button to install the selected services on your device.

- Connect your device to the computer and switch it on.
|
|

Data transfer may not work properly if the connection to your computer is via a USB hub or keyboard.
We recommend that you quit any other running applications, especially anti-virus software (Norton, McAfee etc.) |

If TomTom HOME does not start automatically, you need to start it manually.
|
|
|
|
To start HOME manually, do one of the following:
- In Windows Vista, click the Start button and then click All Programs > TomTom > TomTom HOME.
- In Windows XP, click start > All Programs > TomTom > TomTom HOME.
- In Mac OS X, click Go > Applications and then double-click TomTom HOME.

Devices using internal and external memory:
If your device uses internal memory and a memory card you can switch between memories.
|

|
To switch between the internal memory and the memory card, do the following:

If you're already logged into your TomTom account at this time, your new map is listed here. Continue with step 4.

Wait for HOME to start.
- In HOME, click Log in to log into your TomTom account.
|
|
|
|
Log in by using the same user name (email address) and password as you used purchasing your new map.
Your navigation device needs to be associated with this TomTom account. You can check this in the top right corner of the following page: www.tomtom.com/plus/device.php.

- HOME automatically checks for updates including your new map.
|
|
|
|
HOME checks your TomTom account for new updates such as maps, services and the latest application.
If HOME does not automatically check for updates, click Update my device in the HOME menu.
A window opens and shows the available services for your account.
|

|
|
|
- Download and install your map.
Tick the box next to the map and then click Update and install.
- If a new application is offered make sure you install it.
- If there is not enough free space on your device HOME offers to create free space.
|
|
|
|
- HOME suggests removing items you don't need from your device (e.g. voices in another language. To replace a map by a newer version, tick the old version of that map to remove it.
- If your device has a memory card slot HOME offers to use a memory card instead. Click Disconnect device. Insert a memory card and then connect to the computer again. In HOME click Update my device to continue downloading and installing your map.

|
|
|

HOME downloads the selected items...
HOME then installs the selected items on your device.

- Click Done.
Your new map is now installed on your device.
Before you disconnect
- Install your TomTom Safety Cameras
|
|
|
|
If you have a TomTom Safety Cameras subscription, you need to install your Safety Cameras in your new map folder.

Select your new map
If you have more than one map installed on your device, select the new map by tapping Manage maps in the Preferences menu and then tapping Switch map.

If there is not enough free space on your device HOME offers to remove items. To replacing a map by a newer version, expand Maps and then tick the map to remove it.
Devices using a memory card:
If your device uses a memory card you can expand the available space with a larger memory card.
Click Back and then click Device > Disconnect Device from the HOME main menu.
Devices using internal and external memory:
If your device uses internal memory and a memory card you can switch between memories.

- Your new map is available once we received your payment. Bear in mind that payment methods such as regular bank transfer can take several days.
